The Road Home's mission:
To help people step out of homelessness
and back into our community.

Advocacy/Collaboration

Advocacy

We advocate. At The Road Home, we recognize our responsibility to communicate the need for social improvement. The men, women, children and communities we serve depend upon our insights. Our hope requires us to communicate a message of change.

One of the cornerstones of hope is the recognition that change is not only possible, but that it is necessary. In order to improve our community and ourselves, each of us must embrace change.

We actively participate on several countywide committees to increase the amount of housing available to people moving from homelessness into the community. We've established a structured Speakers Bureau and developed a strong Volunteer Program, both projects designed to engage and inform the community.

In the coming year, The Road Home will support efforts to increase funding for supportive services in Utah that help people to overcome homelessness. In addition, The Road Home will advocate diligently, assertively and vocally for the development of affordable housing for single men and women. Throughout Salt Lake County, there exists a dangerous shortage of low-cost housing for single men and women. Together, we can change that.

Within our agency, the Volunteer Program will develop a structure for volunteers to feel welcome, knowledgeable and well-oriented, and provide meaningful, productive support to programs within the agency.

Collaboration

We collaborate. Every success has at its core two key elements: outstanding individual effort and the support of a committed team. Each day, our team supports people who are working their way through personal barriers and societal obstacles to overcome homelessness. The people engaged in this effort cannot do it alone; similarly, our agency cannot overcome homelessness alone.

The Road Home works in concert with a broad coalition of partners to provide additional services such as substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, health care, employment assistance, children's activities and housing.
