The Road Home's mission:
To help people step out of homelessness
and back into our community.

Emergency Services

A single mother with seven children came to The Road Home after a fire destroyed their house, leaving them homeless with nothing. The Road Home initially provided basic necessities such as clothing, diapers and food bank referrals. We then helped them get state IDs for employment and housing.

Emergency Shelter

One of two options that single men and women may choose from when they enter the Shelter is the "Emergency Shelter Only" program. This program is designed for those people who need shelter only a few days or are not ready to pursue self-sufficiency. Those choosing this option are limited to 90 days of shelter in a 12-month period. There is no case management, but there is access to referrals for resources including employment and housing. During their stay in the shelter, the residents have the option to apply for the Self-Sufficiency Program if they obtain full-time permanent employment and want the assistance of a case manager.

There are 344 beds available for single men and 50 beds for women in the Emergency Shelter Program. The program is operated in three locations; a facility in Midvale, The St. Vincent De Paul Center's dining room, and extra cots at the main shelter. Two case managers work directly with families in this program to help connect them with resources such as health care, school, day care, employment and housing.

Emergency Winter Housing

The Community Winter Shelter is designed to absorb homeless individuals unable to access shelter at the main shelter, due to lack of space from November through April. The goal is to ensure that shelter is available to everyone who seeks it during the cold winter months.

Emergency Assistance

The Emergency Assistance Office provides appointments and referrals to help individuals, families and couples with travel assistance, Utah ID, local transportation, work boots and shoes, clothing, birth certificates and short-term case management services. The office serves anyone who needs help, whether they are enrolled in one of our programs or not. Some are seen only once for emergency travel assistance while others return for continuing support services while working towards self-sufficiency.
