Voltron Christmas Vol. 2

December 19, 2012

In its second year, Operation Voltron Chrismas is a gathering of Utah musicians who record and compile a Christmas themed album. Sales benefit The Road Home, a private non-profit social services agency that assists individuals and famies experiencing homelessness in Salt lake County and along the Wasatch Front.

Participants this year include Royal Bliss, King Niko, Totem & Taboo, Melod & Tyler, The Terks, When the Fight Started, and Captain Cutlass and the Stormcrows  solo artists Charles Ellsworth and bands voltroned together especially for the occasion composed of Whil McCutchen, Joshua Ogzewalla, Travis Adamick, Julianna Clay, and Mame "Mama Beatz" Wallace. Engineers and producers got in on the action as well, with contributors from Matt Winegar, Mitch Davis, Cary Miller, Camden Chamberlain, and Joel Hager. Artwork for the project was donated by Ogden based artist Raul Smith.

Perhaps the most lively portion of Operation Voltron Christmas is a day of live recording where musicians collaborate on the fly. This year's Voltron mixer was organized by Becca Dupaix, Jack Young, Nathan Pugh and Ransom Wydner. The event was hosted by Pygmalion Theater Company at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center with live recording donated by Nathan Pugh and Rick Weller.

The 12 song album, Operation Voltron Christmas Volume 2: Even More Christmas, is available for download at voltronxmas.bandcamp.com and CDs can be purchased from the contributiong artists or at The Road Home during their annual Holiday Radio-a-Thon, Dec. 20 & 21 for a suggested donation of $10.

About Operation Voltron Christmas
Operation Voltron Christmas began as an idea by Salt Lake City musician Ransom Wydner to write and record Christmas songs with other area musicians in order to raise money for charity. The project has grown to include many artists, musicians, engineers, and others who wish to donate their time and talent but remains a relatively small grass roots affiliation and is not incorporated. Contributors hope to see the project grow each year and to become a lasting force for positvie change in the future.
