The Road Home's mission:
To help people step out of homelessness
and back into our community.

Self-Sufficiency Programs

We help people on the road to self-sufficiency. Once people move in off the streets, we work closely together to prepare for the next important move; the one that takes a person into housing. Each participant in this program meets weekly with a case manager to assess their needs and help the resident create and achieve their goals, including housing.

Services include employment counseling, debt resolution, linkages to mental health and wellness support, after school programs for children, in order to help people develop the stability necessary to obtain and maintain housing. There are 16 self-sufficiency beds for men, 22 for women and 31 rooms for families in the shelter in addition to people in housing.

Housing Program

Our Housing Program moves people from homelessness into housing. As soon as the individual or family has completed certain goals and is ready, they move from the shelter into a home where they continue to receive case management and referrals to services, in a community setting.

We've expanded our Housing Program believing that people are more successful in reaching their goals when they are working from their home rather than a homeless shelter. Last year we placed 172 households consisting of over 400 individuals from homelessness into housing.

Children's Program

Our Children's Program has become a wonderful yearlong comprehensive program. These programs benefit the families staying in the Shelter on three levels. Most basically, they provide the kids a way to spend their spare time that is away from the stressful environment of shelter living. Second, they provide our children with enriching experiences that they may not otherwise have access to. And finally, they free up the parent's time so that they are able to search for work and piece their lives back together.

All of our school-age children are involved in after school programs during the school year. They have the opportunity to work with various Salt Lake artists, explore our local environment and participate in group games and activities. The after-school program is a collaborative effort with the YMCA of Greater Salt Lake.

Special Needs

This is a specially designed program for individuals who have a mental illness, are in treatment for substance abuse or are physically ill. There are approximately 46 beds available in the program. Case managers with specialized skills work directly with residents to assist them with their individual needs.

Agencies within the community such as Volunteers of America, Wasatch Homeless Health Care and Valley Mental Health collaborate with The Road Home to provide needed services to residents in the Special Needs program.
