Doug
Doug came to The Road Home in 1999 after living on the streets for 2 years. Doug had been abusing drugs and alcohol for nearly 10 years and was tired of never knowing where the next day would lead him. He was ready for a change. He understood that he would not be able to stay in the shelter if he arrived intoxicated so he decided to make a permanent change in his life: no more drugs or alcohol.
His case manager worked closely with Doug to find a day treatment program that would help him overcome his addictions. Upon graduation from the program Doug began working day jobs to save money to pay off his debts and move into his own apartment. Today Doug lives debt-free in a one bedroom apartment in Salt Lake. This year marks 6 years of sobriety for him.
