Rick is a veteran who has been on the street for many years and is well known by the homeless outreach teams. He had always panhandled around Salt Lake and is easily recognized by many members of the community. Rick is best known for his sweet countenance and willingness to help those around him.
After working with the homeless outreach teams, Rick was finally ready to move off the streets and into a home of his own. Rick worked hard to help move into a new place, yet he did need some help. The whole community rallied around Rick to help him move into his new home. This included filling out paperwork with the Veterans Affairs office, being treated for bed bugs by the 4th Street Clinic staff, obtaining clothes from The Road Home, and finally furnishings for his home from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rick was so happy to be in his new place. The only struggle was Rick was in a wheelchair and his new apartment didn’t have wheelchair access. Again the community rallied around Rick and soon a wheelchair ramp was donated by Layton Lumber to allow him easy accessibility to his new home.
Rick is now healthy and happy in his home, thanks to the help of his many friends in the community.
