The Housing Not Jail Program (HiNJ) is in its second quarter. The team is staffed with a talented multidisciplinary team from The Road Home and Volunteers of America, Utah, consisting of a Supervisor, Therapist, Case Manager, Housing Specialist, Employment Specialist, and AmeriCorp VISTA.
We have seen early successes and hit each benchmark set out in our Pay For Success contract thus far. Each individual that we serve is offered a long term, case managed, shelter bed in our HiNJ dorm. They are seen regularly by case management, as well as their housing specialist and have immediate access to behavior health, substance abuse, and employment services.
We have began to place individuals in housing and are working with our clients to match them with roommates to help in a very competitive rental market. We assist each client with their move, taking them to Deseret Industries to pick out furniture and household items, and even a new bed-set and food order. Upon move-out, clients continue to work with the team to assure housing stability. Being able to serve our clients with many wrap around services is unique and has been incredibly reassuring to this vulnerable population. We are excited to continue to see individuals move out of homelessness and back into our community.
